Between an indoor snowballs fight of waded paper filled with ideas and a flamenco dancing lesson MPI announced that EMEC 2017 will be held from the 5th to the 7th of March 2017 at the Granada Congress and Exhibition Centre. MPI last hosted a conference in Spain in 2010 in Malaga. Next year will mark the association’s second EMEC in the country and the first time in Granada, a town located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada.
Eva Garde, marketing director Granada Convention Bureau, said this is the “perfect time for MPI Spain, the Granada Convention Bureau and the international MPI community to meet in Granada. We are really looking forward to hosting EMEC in 2017.”
The EMEC story began in Copenhagen continues in Granada, a lively and inviting destination for numerous conferences, conventions and incentive trips thanks to the local environment, professionalism of the spaces and services offered and warmth of the people. The conference facility is located in the center of the city, with more than 4,000 hotel rooms within walking distance.
Phil Cross (MPI Spain Chapter, head of corporate events at CCIB, the international convention center in Barcelona) was part of the chapter’s effort to lure MPI’s European Meetings & Events Conference to Granada. “Spain is an important destination for event management,” he said. “Granada has huge potential, huge infrastructure. EMEC going there will get Granada on the map for meetings and events. Granada is the icon of acceptability.” Cross, member of the Granada host committee, also added: “This success of EMEC in Denmark is a beacon of what we can do together. When we meet, we change the world, and that is what we will do. We will take all the brain food (a Meetovation concept) and call it Spain food. We will make your story come true.”
Finally, asked to give a preview of EMEC17 in Granada, Phil Cross said: "The Danish group did a great job with Meetovation (meeting design concept). They were able to get people involved, a lot of interaction and storytelling. Those are natural elements in Spain. It’s a way of being and I feel we can build on the legacy of EMEC 2016 with a Spanish feel and touch."
MPI’s partners for EMEC 2017 include the Granada Convention Bureau and the MPI Spain Chapter. In addition, the following local organizations will be involved in the planning: Granada Congress Centre, Granada City Hall, Province of Granada Tourist Board and Andalucia Tourist Board.
“MPI is excited to hold EMEC in Granada next year. The city’s rich history, beautiful landscape and accessibility make it a great choice for our event,” said Paul Van Deventer, president and CEO of MPI. “In addition to exploring innovative ideas and rich content for the conference, we are working with our host city partners to offer very attractive hotel room rates to conference attendees.”
